This programme will develop students understanding of the value of the social sciences as scientific disciplines, Create awareness in students of the instrumental role of social science in social and economic development, equip students with the critical application of social science knowledge to national development issues, build students social research capacities to be able to assist in undertaking research at both communities, national and regional levels, prepare the capabilities of students for employment in the public, private and third sectors, develop strong theoretical and analytical thinking in the social sciences with research and practical skills in planning, evaluation and communication, especially effective writing. 

The minimum entry requirement for this programme 200/400 in form seven or foundation Social science programme, with English and History any two of the following subjects: Geography, Economics, Mature students with a minimum age of 23 years and relevant work experience may also be considered for candidature. The student must pass Year 13 with 200 out of 400 marks with 50 % minimum mark in English and three any other subjects; either History, Economics, or Geography OR Foundation Social Science with GPA of 2.00 or more to enroll into the Bachelor of Applied Social Science program
