The Division of Estates and Facilities forms part of the University’s Support Services and is responsible for managing the Fiji National University’s estate across all Campuses and Centres.
The Division strives for excellence in providing a safe, sustainable, efficient and comfortable learning and working environment for our staff, students and visitors.
As part of our annual maintenance and refurbishment plans, we undertake regular improvements to the University’s estate through modernisation of existing building and facilities. Keeping imaginative, innovative and sustainable development at the forefront, we endeavour to incorporate Green development initiatives in our projects as well as meeting the learning and administration needs of our students and staff.

The department is directly responsible for maintenance of the University’s built-estate, which comprises of more than 200 buildings, including academic, staff quarters and administrative premises.
The department transactions consist of over 5,000 repairs and inspections each year, ranging from minor leaks and renovations to major fire and road improvement projects. Maintenance staff and specialist contractors are available on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Department is responsible for the awareness and management of the safety, health, and welfare of people at the Fiji National University.
The department is responsible for formulating and implementation of all of the university’s OHS policy, rules, regulations and procedures. It is responsible for creating necessary awareness regarding the necessary rules and regulations to staff, students and members of the public that visit any of FNU Campuses.
In securing workplace health and safety, FNU will pursue best practices in health and safety and fulfil its statuary duties with regards to health and safety at all times.

The Division provides facilities, equipment and grounds that are intended for enhancing and supporting the learning and teaching experiences of the students at the University. While facilities, equipment and grounds are generally open to non-commercial use by the students, student organisations and staff; use for other university-related purposes must not substantially interfere with university activities.
Facilities and grounds are primarily used for educational and research purposes of the University. Where these facilities are not fully utilised for such purposes, they are available for use by the internal and external organisations on a hire basis, provided such use is related to the core activities of the University.
Hire for non-university-related activities are not approved irrespective of whether this is an internal or external hire, except where it is hired for purposes such as hosting conferences and seminars or other activities of similar nature which can potentially be perceived as a ‘partnership’ between the Hirer and the University.
