Unit Name: Gender and Development

Description: This course aids in understanding of the current state of rights in the Pacific region and further students? realization of issues relating to violation of human rights, good governance and enforcement mechanism in Pacific Region. This course analyses themes and tensions raised by the disadvantaged groups in Fiji. Topics considered include human rights of children, women, persons with disabilities and the indigenous people. It also considers rights of workers and right to environment. The course contains a practical component which makes it essential for the students to undetake community research and develop an action plan with a view to ultimately strengthen the human rights culture in their society.
