Student Bursary Scheme

Call for applications for 40 scholarships available for Semester 1, 2024

Who is eligible to apply?

Entry is open to all enrolled students at FNU who have paid the mandatory enrolment fees and enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme or a postgraduate programme with a full load (60 credit points).

To be considered, the applicant must have applied to Student Bursary Scheme and met the following conditions:

  • Be a Fiji Citizen.
  • Must have obtained a high school passing mark (year 13) and have a minimum of 60% pass in each subject with the line to the respective discipline.
  • Continuing students to have obtained an average of B.
  • Postgraduate students should have a minimum average GPA of 3.0 and above in their undergraduate degree programme.
  • Must not receive any other scholarship at the time of application and during the study
  • Combined household salary of less than $30,000.
  • Applicant should not have any disciplinary cases.
  • Applicant should not have any outstanding fees or fines.

How to Apply?

All applications need to be made using SAS form 23 available on FNU website

Applicants need to fill in all details and attach the following supporting documents:

  • Verified evidence of family income of no more than FJD $30,000 per year. In any absence of evidence, a statutory declaration must be submitted.
  • Applicants will need to email their complete set of applications to studentfinancialaid@fnu.ac.fj

Closing Date

  • Applications close on Friday, 15th March 2024 at 4pm.
  • Successful Applicants will be notified in writing or by telephone by Friday 26th April 2024.

Selection Criteria

Applicants from each of the five FNU Colleges and the Fiji Maritime Academy will be selected for the FNU Student Bursary Scheme. The FNU Student Bursary Scheme will be awarded to students, whose application, in the panel’s opinion, most clearly evidences their commitment to their subject discipline. Applicants would be ranked as per their overall GPA for Semester 2, 2023 and the combined family income being less than $30,000.  The selection panel shall comprise of the Pro Vice Chancellor L&T, Director Student  Services and Chief Financial Officer.

Conditions

Successful applicants must meet all the conditions of their offer of a place at the University and have successfully enrolled in Semester 1, 2024.

Director Student Services of the Fiji National University will determine whether the application meets the criteria and can be considered for the sponsorship.

The scholarship will be held by the student for a term of 3 years.

Payment of Award

The University reserves the right to withhold or reserve or terminate payment in the event of inappropriate behaviour which breaches the University’s regulations.

Responsibilities of the FNU Student Bursary Scheme Sponsored Students

  • Abide by the University regulations for academic and personal behaviour
  • Act as an ambassador and engage in promotional activities for the Fiji National University.

Agree that the University may use the names of the sponsored students, their photographs and audio and/or visual recordings of them in publicity and marketing materials.
