Information for Students

Course Description

The Course Description is a document compiled by Student Academic Services which provides the details of all courses that a student has undertaken in their programme.

Details include the subject description from the FNU College Handbook/Program Document of the year the course was completed and may also include: Contact hours, Credit Points, and other information.

Students applying for entry or credit transfers to higher education institutions overseas, are often required to provide unit descriptions with their applications.

To apply for your course description, you must fill the Application for Official Letter form and submit it with payment to your local FNU campus or email on qualification.verification@fnu.ac.fj. Course descriptions are usually processed within 4 working weeks but may take longer if the courses were undertaken prior to the year 2010.

A fee of $50.00 per programme applies.

 

Bonafide Letter

Bonafide Letter is a document compiled by Student Academic Services which provides details of students undertaking a particular programme. This applies to all former and current students of all colleges and centre.

Students applying for visitor’s visa (immigration purposes), job application or opening of new accounts, are often required to provide Bonafide Letter.

To apply for your Bonafide Letter, you must fill the Application for Official Letter form and submit it with payment to your local FNU campus or email on qualification.verification@fnu.ac.fj.

Bonafide Letters are usually processed within 3 working days but may take longer if the courses were undertaken prior to the year 2010.

A fee of $10.00 per programme applies.

 

English Letter

English Letter is a document compiled by Student Academic Services which provides details of students undertaking a particular programme which states that the programme was conducted in English language. This applies to all former students of FNU, NTPC, LTC, FCAE and FCA.

Students applying for admission to higher education institutions overseas, are often required to provide English Letters.

To apply for your English Letter, you must fill the Application for Official Letter form and submit it with payment to your local FNU campus or email on qualification.verification@fnu.ac.fj. English Letters are usually processed within 3 working days but may take longer if the courses were undertaken prior to the year 2010.

A fee of $10.00 per programme applies.

 

Programme Audit Letter

The Programme Audit Letter is a document compiled by Student Academic Services which provides the details of number units completed by the students, the numbers of units the student is currently enrolled in and the number of units the student is yet to be completed in a particular programme. This applies to all the current students of all colleges and centre.

Students applying for extension of their student loan, employment purposes or for in-service, are often required to provide Programme Audit Letter with their applications.

To apply for your Programme Audit Letter, you must fill the Application for Official Letter form and submit it with payment to your local FNU campus or email on qualification.verification@fnu.ac.fj. Programme Audit Letters are usually processed within 3 – 5 working days.

A fee of $10.00 per programme applies.

 

Official Transcript

Official transcript is an official document which provides details of student’s courses taken, grades received and GPA (Grade Point Average) for a particular programme.

To apply for Official transcript, you must fill the Official Transcript form and submit it with payment to your local FNU campus or email: qualification.verification@fnu.ac.fj.

Official transcripts are usually processed within 5 working days. This may take longer for transcript with disparities and those which may require manual search of records.

A fee of $20.00 applies.

$10.00 is applicable for termly transcript.

 

Enrolment Guide

The Enrolment Guide is an important document which will enable you to apply to the Fiji National University and enrol in the courses according to the Programme Structure.

 

Reconsideration of Assessment and Unit Grades

You may apply for reconsideration as follows:

 

Step 1:

  • Get access to a copy of your marked exam script
  • Complete the Application Form for Final Examination Scripts. A fee of $20.00 applies.
  • Submit it to the Student Academic Services Office.
  • No access to exam scripts shall be permitted after 12 months of the release of results for any unit.
  • If you remain unsatisfied, then you should specify the basis for a recount in written, and proceed to step 2.

 

Step 2:

Reconsideration of grades

  • Applications can only be made after a student has viewed his/her script.
  • Applications for reconsideration shall be made within five days of the result being released, if the student wishes to pursue a course to which the course(s) under reconsideration is a prerequisite, or, 21 days of the date of release of the results otherwise.
  • Complete the standard Application for Reconsideration of Assessment. A fee of $50.00 applies.
  • Submit the form with a written basis for a recount to Student Academic Services.

 

Supplementary Assessment

Supplementary assessment may be offered when a student scores more than 45% and less than 50% in a course, or where a student receives a DNQ grade with a final total mark of 50% and over. Apply by completing the Application for Supplementary Assessment Form. A fee of $100 per course applies.

 

Special Consideration

Candidates who are prevented from sitting end-point assessment(s) through no fault of their own, or consider that their performance in the examination(s) will be, or, was seriously impaired, may make written applications to the Chair of the College/Centre Examination Board, for consideration of the award of an aegrotat pass, compassionate pass, or to sit a special examination.

Apply by completing the Application form for Aegrotat/Compassionate/Special Exam.

A fee of $100 per course applies for Application for Special Exam.

 

Withdrawal

Students are encouraged not to withdraw from their programme and courses of studies.

However, if there are genuine reasons you may withdraw, please complete the Application for Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Academic Office and Finance Office. The registration fee is not refundable.

A student may withdraw from a course/unit or a programme by submitting an application for withdrawal to the Academic Office.

 

Enrolment Adjustment

A student may transfer from one programme to another following the processes established by the University for change of programmes.

A student may change units/courses undertaken following the processes below:

  • For change of programme – complete an application for Admission Form
  • For dropping of Units – complete the Withdrawal Form
  • For Adding Units – complete the Enrolment Form

 

Credit Transfer

The University may allow credit transfers to a programme from credits obtained by a student in an equivalent course at another institution. Applications for credit transfer must be made on the Online Form.

 

Graduation

Any qualified person wishing to have the certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or a degree presented at a scheduled graduation ceremony, shall apply to the Office of the Registrar, no later than the date advertised for such applications to be made. Applications are made by completing the Online Form.

 

Replacement Certificates

Replacement certificates may be issued by FNU under the following circumstances:

  • If the original certificate was destroyed in a natural disaster or a human disaster beyond the control of the student.
  • If the original certificate was stolen in a burglary.
  • If the original certificate was mutilated or damaged.
  • If the original certificate was lost.

 

According to the provisions of the UASR Section 7.11.3, for any of these grounds to be considered, the applicant is required to submit an original statutory declaration stating clearly the reason for the request of a replacement certificate.

 

Where reasons are destruction through natural disasters or theft/burglary, or fire/arson, the declaration must also provide details of the event (for example, the date of the flood, reports from authorities on the impact of the flood generally and specifically on the applicant, or, a police report for theft or fire).

 

For certificates that are mutilated or damaged, these need to be submitted together with the statutory declaration. For certificates that are lost, students must advertise in the major newspapers where the certificate is considered lost, under the ‘Lost and Found’ section, at least four weeks before requesting the University for a replacement certificate.

 

Application is made by completing the Application for Replacement Certificate Form. A fee of $250.00 applies together with the provisions as stated in the University Academic and Student Regulations (UASR).

 

Student ID Card

Students are requested to have a valid ID card to access all the services of the University. Please visit the nearest ID Section on your FNU Campus.

In case you lose your ID card, you may request for a replacement by completing the Application for Replacement of Student ID Card form. A fee of $20.00 applies.

 

Update of Personal Details

If your address, phone contact and other details have changed, please complete the Application for Update of Student Personal Details form and submit it to the nearest FNU Campus. This process does not carry any fee.
