Out- come of emergency laparotomy in Solomon Islands

Authors: Augustin Gasivaka Melly

Description: This MED 840 research project focuses on emergency laparotomy in the Solomon Islands, a common surgical procedure with outcomes that are associated with high morbidity and mortality, even in the best healthcare systems. The study aims to assess patient outcomes following emergency laparotomies and to identify the factors contributing to these outcomes in the Solomon Islands. The research also highlights that early detection, timely referral, prompt surgical intervention, and establishing a high-dependency care unit in the surgical ward can significantly improve the outcomes of emergency laparotomies in the Solomon Islands.
