Programme Description
Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Community Health Nursing) programme is designed to meet the needs of community health nurses currently employed or those aspiring to build knowledge and skills to offer care to individuals, families, and communities outside of hospital setting in an innovative and creative manner.

A nurse after successfully completing the programme and having at least two years of experience in this specialised area of nursing will be known as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Community Health Nursing. A CNS will act as a resource and mentor to others in relation to clinical practice by, for example, being aware of current developments in their field of practice and identifying areas for practice improvement. Market analysis conducted amongst nurses in Fiji and in Tonga indicated 99% support for the need to upgrade qualification of community health nurses to postgraduate levels in Nursing.

A registered nurse who had served internship and has at least one year of experience at Primary Care health setting will be eligible to enter the programme.

The programme has been benchmarked with international universities in UK, Australia, and New Zealand to check for programme name, duration of study, level of study, credit points, modes of delivery of programme, modes of assessment during programme, tuition fee and key contemporary issues covered. This programme encapsulates key elements consistent with similar programmes offered in other Universities abroad. The learner will be able to develop, deliver and evaluate community care based on scientific findings in nursing.

The purpose of the programme is to build knowledge base for community health nurses in Fiji and the region to meet the complex health care demands of local populations.

Minimum Requirement
1.	Bachelor of Nursing with one (1) year of work experience in Community Health Facility after completing internship programme.

2.	Registered Nurse and possess current practicing license with Fiji Nursing Council or National Nursing regulatory body for regional student.
