Unit Name: Cancer Prevention and Cancer Care
Description: This course focusses on the specialist knowledge and skills which are essential component in the multidisciplinary management of oncology patients who have been discharged and continuity of care is carried out at home. The course enhances oncological care nursing practice through the application of theoretical practical, and policy knowledge and skills in caring for the cancer patient at home The course will begin with discussing the disease landscape of commonly occurring cancers in Fiji and the region and the primary and secondary prevention efforts in place to addressing them through strategies by both governmental and non-governmental agencies. Tertiary prevention and including care of clients living with cancer in family settings will be looked at in detail and will include knowledge in administration of chemotherapy, management of pain both pharmacologically and non- pharmacologically and provide knowledge that will enable CHN to empower career with bedside nursing skills in home settings for the terminally ill client using the nursing process.
