Programme Name Master of Medicine in Psychiatry (Quota Based)
Programme Description
The Master of Medicine in Psychiatry (MMED-PSY) at the FNU, College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS) is a duration of 3 years. The programme has been designed to address Pacific psychiatric health issues, ranging from basic sciences to various clinical conditions, diagnosis and management, i.e., it is a ‘Pacific specific’ degree.
This programme will offer comprehensive clinical training in psychiatry which is relevant to the Pacific and recognizes the particular professional roles that are required and the physical and financial constraints on the practice of Psychiatry within the region. Graduates will be equipped to provide high quality specialist services in a wide variety of settings throughout the Pacific Region and to be leaders in the specialty of Psychiatry.
This programme will have a total of 460 credit points, which is composed of level 8 credit points-340 (PSY820-120+PSY830-120+MED811-40+MED812-60) and level 9 credit points-120 (PSY900-120).

Minimum Requirement
Entry into the full MMED (PSY) programme requires successful completion of the MBBS or equivalent qualification with Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health (DMH 801), and:
1.	A minimum 65% overall mark in DMH 801 or equivalent GPA (2.67 as per FNU UASR)
2.	Graduates of DMH 801 (PGDMH) who achieved the award but who did not obtain the requisite 65% may attain entrance following achievement of a minimum 65% in an entrance exam, or
3.	Repeat of DMH 801 and obtainment of the minimum of 65% overall in the subsequent attempt
The above points must be obtained within the previous 3 years of the proposed year of entry.  

For those who have obtained the PGDMH and with a minimum of 65% but have exceeded the maximum 3 years’ post-qualification (as specified above) and has not been working in mental health sector, for entry into the MMED (PSY), it is also required to pass the entrance exam with a minimum grade of 65%. However, if they have been working in the mental health sector and have achieved the 65% overall mark in the PGDMH but have exceeded the 3-year maximum post-PGDMH, they will be allowed to enter the MMED-PSY programme.

Further entry requirements:
•	Must have obtained, or be able to obtain, suitable employment with Fiji MOHMS psychiatric services in Fiji, or any other suitable place for adequately supervised clinical attachments in their own country’s psychiatric services.
•	Must be registered with the Fiji Medical Council for their supervised clinical work in Fiji and hold appropriate medical registration for all other workplace placements in other countries.
Applicants are generally citizens of Pacific Island countries; however outside applicants may be considered on case-by-case basis at the discretion of the HOS in consultation with discipline/unit head and the PGAC.
