Wind Resource Assessment and Site Suitability of Onshore Grid Connected Wind Farms in Fiji

Author: Navlit Swastika Prasad

Description: The purpose of this study is to carry out a micro-scale wind resource assessment and site suitability assessment of model potential onshore grid-connected wind farms in Rakiraki, Natadola, Nabouwalu and Udu in Fiji, using the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program (WAsP), WAsP Engineering, and the Windfarm Assessment Tool (WAT). The analysis was conducted using observed wind speed and direction data gathered from the mesoscale wind resource mapping exercise (Dayal, 2021), the Fiji Department of Energy (FDOE), and the Fiji Meteorological Services (FMS). The predominant wind direction is east at the Natadola site and south-east at the Rakiraki, Nabouwalu, and Udu sites.
