Programme Name Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Technology (Level 5) Quota Based
Programme Description
The Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Technology programme is a one-year programme that integrates theoretical, practical components at CMNHS and clinical experience in hospital laboratories. Student learning also include evaluation of basic laboratory test results and other skill developments essential for employment as medical laboratory assistants in medical laboratories with limited facilities or assistants to medical laboratory scientists in major hospital laboratories.

The programme consists of five courses with a total credit point of 120. The courses include Clinical Biochemistry, Transfusion Medicine, General Microbiology, Haematology and Professional Practice. All courses are offered on site at the Pasifika Campus of the College of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences for local students and will be offered on-line for students in the PICs. During Professional Practice, students will be assigned to different sections of the Pathology Departments at the Divisional, Sub- divisional and PICs laboratory.  This will enable students to get first-hand experience of laboratory environment and address questions about the daily operations of the diagnostic laboratory. Each course has prescribed assessment components that need to be successfully completed for the Certificate to be awarded. 


Majors Clinical Laboratory Technology
Minimum Requirement
1.	A pass in the Fiji Year 13 Examination or equivalent with a minimum aggregate mark of 250 out of 400 including a 50% pass in English and best three relevant subjects: Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer studies and Food Technology. OR.
2.	Successfully completed the Certificate in Phlebotomy programme.
3.	A pass in full Foundation Science programme or equivalent with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 out of 4.5 or 2.53 out of 5.0 including a 50% pass in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. OR.
4.	A pass in the Bridging or Unclassified Foundation Science programme with minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.5 or 2.53 out of 5.0 including a pass in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. OR.
5.	Graduates of the Health Professionals Foundation programme may be considered based on academic merit with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 out of 4.5 or 2.53 out of 5.0 including a 50% pass in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. OR.
6.	Conditional enrolment or alternative entry: applicants who can demonstrate their ability to succeed in this programme based on their relevant professional experience or prior learning may be considered for placement upon approval by the Dean or/and the Programme Coordinator, as per the University Academic & Student Regulations (UASR).
7.	For applicants who wish to study using Distance and Flexible Learning from the home countries will need to provide evidence of employment of 2 years in the Pathology Laboratory, with a support letter from the bench supervisor.
8.	Regional and international applicants will need qualifications assessed by the Pacific Community (SPC)’s Educational Quality and Assessment Programme.
