DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH & PRIMARY CARE (DPHPC)

The DPHPC was established in the early 1900s to cater for the training and preparation of a special cadre of health professionals who look after Public Health. PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAMS

The Public Health Program has been re-structured since 2006.  Previously, the emphasis had been placed on specialization, where students could enroll in Certificates and Diplomas within specialist discipline areas.  (Although these ‘specialist’ Certificates and Diplomas in Health Promotion and Health Services management are still available, they will be taught in summer schools, or to ‘special interest’ student groups).

In 2008 the emphasis is placed on a generalist public health education with a 3 year Bachelor program, structured so that students can exit with a Certificate in the first year, a Diploma in the second, or progress to the Bachelor Degree in the third year, in which they have the opportunity to focus on an area of particular interest.
