Unit Name: Introduction to iTaukei Literature

Description: This unit offers an introduction to iTaukei literary studies and writing in itaukei language. Students will examine the contribution of folklore towards the development of iTaukei literature and will be provided with a critical framework with which to analyse literary texts such as short-fiction and poetry genres, drama and information text writing. This unit promotes critical reflection upon the processes involved in reading and writing. It encourages students to analyse their own reading experience in relation to theories concerning the reader\'s reception and the writer\'s production of texts. Students are exposed to critical thinking and personal reflection by writers past and present. Students are asked to analyse the skills necessary for writing in different genres, and apply these skills in several short writing assignments.

Prerequisite: N/A

Prerequisite Sentence: A pass in Form 7/Year 13 exam with a minimum total of 200 marks or equivalent. Recognition would be given to mature aged students who do not meet the 13 years of continous progression but who have relevant work experience and prior learning
