Unit Name: Research Project

Description: This course allows students to undertake a full two semester research project on a of laboratory based topic under supervision. Students learn to design, manage and complete a research project. Students summarize the results in a research report and present the results of the project. Students must have completed all 3 years of courses of BMLS programme before undertaking a project.

Learning Target Outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the students will be able to: 1. Articulate a clear research question or problem and formulate a hypothesis. 2. Identify and demonstrate appropriate research methodologies and know when to use them. 3. Define, articulate and use terminology, concepts, and theory in their field and know how to use. 4. Use library and other tools to search for existing body of research relevant to their topic. 5. Identify existing body of research relevant to their topic and explain how their project fits . 6. Identify and practice research ethics and responsible conduct in research. 7. Relate and apply problem solving skills to constructively address research setbacks. 8. Work collaboratively with other researchers, using listening and communication skills. 9. Work autonomously in an effective manner, setting and meeting deadlines. 10. Reflect on their own research, identifying lessons learned, strengths, and ways to improve. 11. Communicate confidently and constructively with graduate students and faculty as mentors. 12. Explain their research to others in the field and to broader audiences through research. 13. Articulate the relevance of their research to their coursework and professional future, synthesizing their research, academic, and professional interests and goals. 14. Identify and describe what they could expect as a graduate student. 15. Reflect constructively on their research experience in making decisions about their future, whether for grad school or the work.
