Programme Description | The Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Intensive Care Nursing) programme is a one-year programme in a full-time mode and two years’ part-time mode. It is taught at Level 8 under Fiji Qualifications Framework (FQF) and the University Qualification Framework concurrently over two semesters with a total of 120 credit points. The programme is offered through a blended mode of learning. The programme is designed to prepare graduates to practice as specialized intensive care nurses in Fiji and the Pacific. The Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Intensive Care Nursing) programme will build a registered nurse to become a specialist intensive care nurse through the integration of advanced-level knowledge, be able to demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills, enhanced communication skills in addition to the humanistic values when managing a critically ill patient. The course learning outcomes in this programme is also aligned with the SDG’s. |

Minimum Requirement | Minimum entry requirement for the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Intensive Care Nursing) shall be: • Bachelor of Nursing with a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent from a recognized institution and a minimum of three years’ work experience as a nurse after graduation and • One year of recent experience within the Intensive Care Unit or High Dependency Unit or Acute Care settings. • Students who do not meet a GPA of 3.0 in a bachelor’s degree may be allowed entry based on their work experience in Intensive Care Specialty nursing and a letter of recommendation from their immediate supervisor. • Graduates from the Postgraduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing from James Cook University and Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing from the Australian College of Nursing may be allowed entry into the Lateral Entry programme. • Applicants who do not have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, but who are able to demonstrate ability to succeed based on maturity, work experience, or prior learning may also apply specifically, to registered nurses with three (3) years of Intensive Care Nursing experience. |
