Unit Name: Intensive Care Nursing II
Description: This course will build on the knowledge gained from Intensive care nursing I and Advanced Physiological Nursing. This is the second clinically based course and it builds upon the foundations and concepts that were laid in Intensive Care Nursing I. In this course, the knowledge, skills and issues is expounded to a more complex range of conditions affecting the critically ill patient. A systems based approach will be used to develop your learning and advanced intensive care nursing. The content of this course will mainly focus on the patient with neurological, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, hematological and multisystem disorders. The focus will be on the collaborative multidisciplinary management of complex intensive care patient and the critical care nurse’s role in the intensive care unit. You will also note that topics covered at the end of this course includes knowing about the other populations of patient that are likely to be admitted at the adult ICU this is to ensure that an intensive care nurse is well equipped to nurse a client from other category of patients in the ICU.
