Programme Name Certificate in Carpentry (Level 3)
Programme Description
Aim:
1. To provide a basic technical skills course for the industry which forms the basis for employment as a tradesman in Carpentry work.
2. To provide the industry with an adequate number of capable and trained personnel who have acquired a sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes of Carpentry trade skills.
3. To provide the industry with an adequate number of capable and trained personnel who have acquired a sound knowledge and understanding of the limits of carpentry. 
4. To provide a core of technical knowledge to students who may wish to extend their studies to higher qualifications and specialization in carpentry.
5. To develop the craft skills of the student to enable them to make a positive contribution to the standards and quality of Carpentry work in their field of employment.

Graduate Profile:
1. Work safety and in accordance with compliance and regulatory requirements in the construction trades sector.
2. Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers within the construction industry.
3. Read and use specifications and drawings to complete simple cabinet and construction projects.
4. Perform simple calculations to complete a range of familiar tasks in the construction sector.
5. Understand and apply specific joinery terminology when carrying out carpentry work in a project environment.
6. Understand basic building technology, the properties of timber, concrete, steel and composite products, interior and exterior linings and fixings, and apply this knowledge to carpentry projects.
7. Follow the sequence of machining and construction for assembling and installing joinery items while carrying out Carpentry projects.
8. Carry out assigned carpentry work in a project environment.

Graduates of this qualification would be able to:
•Qualify to enroll on Trade Diploma programs and further studies.
•Join private, Government or commercial industries as an assistant tradesperson.
•Streamlines career path after years of dedicated services.

Minimum Requirement
a) Successful completion of Year 11 level of studies OR Certificate (Level 2) from Technical College of Fiji
b) Applicants may also be admitted to the programme who may not meet the requirement on the years of the continuous education progression, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programmes at these levels based on their maturity, work experience or prior learning and are 17 years of age.
