Biography:
Dr. Patrick Singh is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering and currently serves as the Head of Department for Mechanical Engineering and Renewable Energy at the College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education and Training (CETVET) at the Fiji National University. In 2018, he was recognized for achieving excellence in research as an Early Career Researcher. His contribution to knowledge is in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering focusing on renewable energy. Dr. Singh has published several journals related to turbo machinery and renewable energy and also conducted research projects at the national level in the same field. One of his most notable achievements is the design of a hydrofoil for tidal current turbines for which he has been awarded with best paper by the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers. He also designed an experimental test rig on a pump-turbine system for energy storage systems for his laboratory. His current research focuses on testing mechanical properties for local sustainable materials like bamboo and maintenance engineering involving the nation’s core industries. His long-term focus is on the development of energy-independent islands in the Pacific Island Countries (PICs), where sustainable ways of generating energy can be explored from natural resources while reducing the impact of fossil fuels.
