FMA Programmes

The main objective of FMA Programmes is to conduct Preparatory Courses for Seafarers to Qualify for Certificate of Competency (COC) examination with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).

FMA also conducts all the mandatory safety courses for seafarers to work onboard vessels.

To meet the international standards in seafaring, the Academy develops Programmes according to Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), International Convention as amended while developing syllabi recommended by International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Courses.

Mainstream Programmes offered at FMA are also approved by the FNU Senate and are registered at Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC).

Students graduating from the Academy in main Programmes are awarded a Diploma in either Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. Graduates then embark on a career path of a Deck Officer or/and Engineer commencing at Class III Watchkeeper. If they have a foreign going seatime vessel over 3000 GT for deck officers and 300 KW engine capacity for Engineers, then the path will lead up to Class I management level in both disciplines.

Fiji Maritime Academy is the sole maritime training provider in Fiji and caters to all nationals interested in pursuing training. FMA offers Programmes that enable school leavers pathways to become a seafarer.

Our training curriculum is recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and approved by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF), enables seafarers to work on local and international ships.
