Fiji/Pacific Educators volunteer group members handing out goodies to frontline workers.
The Fiji/Pacific Educators volunteer group has shown their appreciation for the tremendous work being done by our healthcare and frontline workers in battling the second wave of COVID-19.
The group has donated baskets of fruits and goodies to healthcare workers around the country who have been working tirelessly, round the clock, to keep Fijians protected from this deadly virus.
The group comprises educators in Fiji and the Pacific, as well as stakeholders of education who value the impact of education and the important role it plays in building a peaceful, robust and prosperous society.
A member of the group and the Dean of Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Humanities and Education (CHE), Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said the group plans to reach out to the most vulnerable amongst the frontliners.
She said this was a demonstration of the group’s care and concern over the unimaginable risks that our frontliners were exposed to.
“The group hopes to provide donations in whatever form to assist and support the frontline workers directly or indirectly in acknowledgment of the sacrifices and commitment that they have demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“The donations would be from flowers to cards, cash and kind, knowledge exchange and moral support to the various locations according to what will benefit them and their loved ones.”
“The various committees in several towns in Fiji are coordinating the collection and delivery of these donations in support of our healthcare workers and frontliners – small contributions as they are, but a symbol of our collective THANK YOU to these groups of persons serving Fiji and often absent from home in these hard times!”
She said their target group includes health, security forces, civil servants and volunteers who are at the frontline of operation across the country.
According to Prof Nabobo-Baba, educators (at all levels and of all types) are critical to the development of the nation’s human capital and therefore should continue to be supported, nurtured and motivated for sustained commitment and exceptional performances, even in extreme circumstances.
“The group is of the view that this is an opportunity for long-term engagement of all parties for relief purposes in Fiji and the region, considering the extreme weather conditions and ever-changing circumstances experienced by the vulnerable small island states.”
Prof Nabobo-Baba is encouraging educators to become part of this group.
“We are your everyday educators, teachers, Ministry leaders, workers, business owners, youth, women, academics, union leaders and members, relations, NGO members, families, friends – we want to give some CHEER! to our Healthcare workers and COVID-19 Frontliners – Join US!”
