The Fiji National University (FNU) has officially welcomed Professor Atul Kumar Raturi as the new Dean of the College of Engineering and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CETVET).

Professor Raturi, an accomplished academic and professional with more than 30 years of experience, outlined his mission of positioning universities as integral contributors to national development. He emphasised that universities must go beyond being centres of instruction to becoming active partners with communities, government, and industries.

“Education should not only be measured by degrees conferred, but by the tangible impact it creates,” Professor Raturi said.

“Our work in research, teaching, and training must be sustainable, inclusive, and directly responsive to the needs of our people. Whether through renewable energy solutions, skills development, or climate resilience, universities must play a central role in shaping Fiji’s national progress.”

His remarks highlighted the importance of impactful and applied research, strengthening technical education, and advancing collaboration across disciplines to ensure that FNU remains aligned with Fiji’s National Development Plan and global sustainability goals.

Welcoming him into the University Vuvale, Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said:
“Professor Raturi embodies the values that FNU treasures innovation, service, and commitment to our people and our region. His leadership will be vital as CETVET continues to strengthen its role in shaping the future of engineering and technical education in Fiji and the Pacific. On behalf of the University, I warmly welcome him and wish him every success in his new role.”

Professor Raturi brings a wealth of expertise in renewable energy, sustainable development, and academic leadership, having previously served as Head of the School of Engineering and Physics at the University of the South Pacific.

His career has included significant contributions to regional energy strategies, solar energy systems, and policy development, particularly in advancing Fiji’s long-term sustainable energy agenda.

The University looks forward to Professor Raturi’s leadership and vision as CETVET enters its next chapter of growth and excellence.
