Kaiava Turaganivalu seeking guidance during the FNU Student Support and Awareness Drive at Natabua Campus.

As he handed in his application for support from the Fiji National University (FNU) Foundation during the FNU Student Support and Awareness Drive at Natabua Campus, Kaiava Turaganivalu’s thoughts immediately turned to his father.

He is the man working tirelessly behind the scenes carrying the weight of the family alone since the heartbreaking loss of Turaganivalu’s mother in 2023.

His hard work as the sole breadwinner of the family is nothing short of supporting his son’s dreams of becoming a teacher someday.

With hope in his heart and gratitude on his mind, Turaganivalu knew this step was not just for himself, but for the man who never stopped believing in him.

The FNU Foundation serves as a beacon of hope for underserved students of the FNU. It reaches out with open arms to support disadvantaged students, ensuring that no dream is too distant and no challenge too daunting.

The former Sacred Heart College student hails from the Village of Naocobau in the District of Nakorotubu, in the Province of Ra.

“My mother passed away in 2023 and my father is the sole breadwinner of the family currently working at, South Sea Towage LTD as a watchman,” he said.

The 20-year-old lad is a first-year-student pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) majoring in Geography and History at FNU’s Natabua Campus in Lautoka.

“Since my father is the only provider of the family, the assistance from the FNU Foundation will assist us greatly,” Turaganivalu added.

He highlighted the FNU Foundation stood as a vital source of hope for him and other students in need, allowing them to focus on their studies and eventually contributing to their future.

The FNU Foundation’s key focus areas include the Scholarships and Student Support, the Coffee Forward Initiative, the Veilomani Closet and the Veilomani Food Pantry which are all located at the FNU Namaka and FNU Natabua Campuses.
