Emotions overflowed in the room as Divya Swastika Swamy proudly received her Certificate in Office Assistance (Level 3) at the Fiji National University’s (FNU) December graduation ceremony.

Cheers resonated, painting a vivid picture of triumph as this resilient young lady defied the limitations of disability, proving that the power of dreams knows no bounds. Not a single eye remained dry in the room. Surrounded by those that mean the world to her, Swamy shared how the journey to attaining her certificate was not an easy one.

“I have faced so many challenges in life as a person living with disability, but I never let it stop me,” she proudly declared.

“My mother has been my biggest motivator, and she never stopped believing in me; she was the first one to see past my disability.”

Swamy also shed some light on how lecturers at FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) helped her cope with her studies.

“I have only studied till Year 4, and then I joined vocational studies, so I struggled with accounting and finance at first, but the lecturers were so nice, approachable, and understanding. They were always happy to assist and kept encouraging me.”

“I am happy that I chose FNU to help turn my dreams into reality!” exclaimed Swamy as tears of joy welled in her eyes.

Her parents beamed with pride as they saw their daughter defy the odds and show the world that nothing is impossible for those who believe in the power of their dreams.

“I have always believed in Divya, and I knew that there was nothing that she could not do,” said her proud mother.

“Divya has made all of us extremely proud, and the credit goes to her mom for always believing in her potential and pushing her towards her dream,” said Divya’s father.

Young Swamy said this was just the beginning for her, and she aimed to attain a Bachelor soon.

The Vanua Levu lass encouraged other young people living with disabilities to believe in themselves and the power of their dreams and to join FNU to turn their dreams into reality.
