Non-English-speaking individuals can now learn English with confidence at the Fiji National University (FNU).
This follows the launch of FNU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) programme under the College of Humanities, Education and Law, School of Communication, Language and Literature (SCLL).
The programme is specifically designed to prepare non-English-speaking students for both the academic and general training modules of English, focusing on listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Programme Lecturer Suliana Tinanivalu highlighted that the programme is suitable for immigrants, international students, professionals needing to improve their English for work, or anyone looking to enhance their language skills.
Tinanivalu noted that no Minimum Entry Requirement (MER) is needed for enrolment.
“This programme prioritises practical English used in everyday situations, including conversation, shopping, and navigating public spaces,” she said.
The programme offers three levels of classes: beginners, intermediate, and advanced.
Tinanivalu added that as SCLL is already focused on language and communication, introducing an ESL programme aligns with its mission, expanding its expertise and influence in English language education.
