Inspiration, Innovation, Opportunity – All at FNU Open Day 2025

The Fiji National University (FNU) is hosting its Open Day 2025, with more than 15,000 students from 120 secondary schools across Fiji expected to attend the three-day event.

Running under the theme “Crafting Futures Together”, this year’s Open Day is being held across FNU’s major campuses in Nasinu, Natabua, Bonunaqwele, Naduna, and promises to be the largest yet, offering a vibrant showcase of academic excellence, innovation, and career pathways.

Speaking at the official opening of the Open Day at Nasinu campus, Pro-Vice Chancellor TVET Pasifika, Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata, assured students that FNU would continue to support them throughout their journey.

“We believe in the saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and at FNU we want to assure you that we will be with you every step of the way—from welcoming you at this Open Day, helping you with your studies, cheering you on as you graduate, and remaining your lifelong partner through the Alumni Network.”

At Naduna campus, one of the most memorable visits came from Galoa Island Primary School in Bua Province. Year 6 and 7 students travelled by boat from Galoa Island to the mainland and then by carrier to reach Labasa. It was their first Open Day experience.

“Our aim for bringing the students today was to enlighten them and give them an idea about what to expect out there,” said their teacher, Sue Moaniba.

“The displays of different colleges really helped them picture career paths, I even heard some saying they want to be an engineer or a doctor.”

A total of 11 schools visited Naduna campus yesterday, while Nasniu campus welcomed 28 schools, including Ra High School who travelled all the way from Rakiraki, and three special schools.

For many students, the Open Day is both exciting and inspiring. Ratu Sailosi Nawerecaqa, a Marist Champagnat Institute student living with hearing and speech impairments, said he was encouraged by what he saw.

“I really like the atmosphere here at the Open Day. I visited all the booths, and I found NTPC very encouraging, and I would like to join their Centre,” he signed with a smile.

The FNU Open Day 2025 will continue until Saturday, 4 October, with more exciting activities, workshops, and live sessions scheduled. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and explore how FNU can support their education and career aspirations.

Through the theme “Crafting Futures Together,” FNU aims to inspire students to explore their options and take the next step in shaping their future.
