From humble beginnings as a trainee waitress at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort in 1986 to becoming a respected hospitality leader across the Pacific, Jokapeci Takayawa Raiwalui has dedicated over three decades to excellence in tourism, events, and customer service.

Originally from Tubou, Lakeba in Lau, Raiwalui’s professional journey has seen her take on senior leadership roles across some of the region’s top resorts, including Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Warwick Fiji, Iririki Island Resort in Vanuatu, and the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa.

She is the sixth child in a family of ten siblings and proudly carries the traditions of her heritage. She is happily married to Gus Evening, with whom she shares seven children and fifteen grandchildren.

“My journey in the tourism industry began with a love for service and a desire to grow. I never imagined that starting out as a trainee would open doors to leadership and education,” she said.

Beyond the hospitality sector, Jokapeci has also given back to the next generation through education, serving as a lecturer and tutor in hospitality and tourism at the then Fiji Institute of Technology which is now known as the Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Engineering and Technical Vocational Education and Training (CETVET).

Today, she serves as the Senior Supervisor at FNU’s Coffee Haven, the bustling café located within Namaka Campus in Nadi. For her, this role is more than just overseeing operations, it’s about building a warm, welcoming space for the FNU community and the wider public.

Coffee Haven is a focus area under the FNU’s ‘FNU Foundation’ which is the charitable heart of the university. The other areas include the Veilomani Closet, the Veilomani Food Pantry and Scholarships and Student Support.
