Former FNU lecturers appointed FCS Commissioners

FNU Vice-Chancellor and FCS Commissioner Dr Jale Nakarawa.

The Fiji National University (FNU) welcomes the appointment of the new Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Dr Jalesi Nakarawa, a former academia at FNU.

Dr Nakarawa is uniquely qualified for the position based on his impressive background and experience. With an extensive legal education and many years serving in leadership roles within the correctional system and Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Nakarawa has demonstrated abilities that will serve him well in this important role.

FNU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo- Baba said this breadth of relevant training and occupational achievements have prepared Dr. Nakarawa to take a leadership role in the Correctional Services.

“His in-depth knowledge of the legal system, proven track record of managing corrections facilities, and strategic mindset will be tremendous assets as he guides the future of the agency in its vital mission,” Professor Nabobo-Baba stated.

She added Fiji was fortunate to have a candidate with Dr. Nakarawa’s exemplary background and qualifications taking on the critical duties of Commissioner.

Dr Nakarawa spent 6 years 8 months at FNU and started as a lecturer to Assistant Professor which he later held the Acting Head of Law Department within the College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies.

During his tenure at FNU, he taught Constitutional Laws, Criminal Laws, Criminal Procedures and Land Laws to name a few. Dr Nakarawa completed his Master of Law and PhD in Laws from the University of Waikato in New Zealand.

Professor Nabobo-Baba equally congratulated Auta Moceisuva on his appointment as a Deputy Commissioner for FCS.

Mr Moceisuva started at FNU as an assistant lecturer in 2019 and then moved up to Head of Department in Management in 2023 until May this year. During his 5 years tenure at the university, he taught Introduction to Business Management, Introduction to Marketing, Small Micro Enterprises, Introduction to Industrial Relations & HRM and Strategic Marketing.
