The Fiji National University (FNU) welcomed its regional and international students in a special orientation session yesterday at their Nasinu Campus.

While speaking to the students present at the orientation session, Sereima Baleisomi, Acting Manager, Monitoring and Compliance at FNU’s Office of Learning and Teaching, acknowledged the courage of the students who had left their homes in the pursuit of knowledge.

“Let me acknowledge the courage you took to step into a new world. Living in familiar surroundings, loved ones and your comfort zone is no small feat. But here you are, proof of your resilience and determination.” Said Baleisomi.

“At Fiji National University, you are not just students. You are pioneers of your own futures and contributors to our collective mission to learn, to lead and to uplift communities across our region and across the world.”

She reminded the students that FNU is more than a place of learning.

“FNU is a vuvale, and in Fijian, vuvale is family. And in a vuvale, or family, no one is left behind. We look out for each other. Diversity is our strength.”

She also encouraged the students to choose the right peers who would help them in their educational journey away from home.

“Make good friends who will help you make good decisions. The friendship you forge here will sustain you long after graduation. So, the relationship you cultivate here will become lifelong pillars of strength.”

“As regional and international students, you carry the aspirations of your families and communities. When the road gets tough, remember why you began!”

As of Semester 1, 2025, FNU has 419 regional and international students from as far as Falkland Island, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United States of America.
