FNU to commence western division high school visits this week

FNU’s Career Discovery Session for High School Students’ team conducted its high school visit at Nuku Secondary School.

 In its journey to ensure no student is left behind, the Fiji National University (FNU) concluded its Central Division high school visits in the outskirts of Serua-Namosi.

FNU’s Career Discovery Session for High School Students’ team conducted its high school visits at Nuku Secondary School, Namosi Secondary School, and Wainimakutu Secondary School last week.

FNU’s Career Discovery Team travelled 83 kilometres from Suva to Nuku Secondary School, whereby 110 students, from Years 9 to Year 13, experienced FNU’s virtual Career Discovery journey right in their classrooms.

Nuku Secondary School Vice-Principal, Sailendra Kumar Maharaj, said FNU’s Career Discovery for High School Students is happening at a convenient time with the students just beginning with a new academic term.

“This campaign by FNU is an amazing initiative, it is at an opportune time for the FNU team to share their experiences to our students, as well as what programmes and courses that are being offered at the institution for our students,” he said.

Originally, from Suva, Maharaj who has been teaching at Nuku Secondary School for five years, expressed that the information imparted from the FNU team will enable to students to work towards their tertiary dreams.

“The presentation from the team contained a lot of visual representations, and I am certain that the students will actually want to become part of what was visually represented in the virtual tour,” Maharaj further added.

“I am sure all the students that were lagging behind in their studies, will now work towards attending FNU to get educated; these high school visits are a good effort from FNU, especially for our Year 12 and 13 students.”

“FNU’s Career Discovery team has visited our school at the right time and supported the academic and career advice that I been giving to the students, and it is quite a big milestone for them to think about their future.”

Nuku Secondary School teacher Vereima Likuivalu said she was extremely grateful to have FNU officials in the school to educate the students the value of tertiary education.

Likuivalu, an alumnus of FNU graduated with a Bachelor in Education (Geography and History) at FNU’s Natabua campus.

“FNU is doing is good job, and this Career Discovery visits are very educational for us, being in the highlands. We are so grateful that the FNU officials and delegates have visited our school,” Likuivalu stated.

“I would recommend FNU because for their flexible-learning options as well as its facilities that will benefit majority of our students who wish to pursue their tertiary education at the institution.”

FNU’s Career Discovery Session for High School Students’ team conducted its high school visit at Nuku Secondary School.

The high school visits commenced in the Central Division on 19 June and continued until 30 June. Our Career Discovery team will be at the Western Division this week, from 3-14 July, and the Northern Division from 17-28 July 2023.

Virtual sessions are going to be conducted for maritime schools in the first week of August.
