Participants at the first-ever 2026 National Careers Teacher Training
The Fiji National University (FNU) has reaffirmed its commitment to shaping future-ready graduates by supporting the first-ever National Careers Teachers Training which was launched at Church College, catering to the needs of Central Division educators.
Held under the theme “Building Strong Career Pathways for Fiji’s Youth: Preparing Today for Tomorrow’s Opportunities,” the landmark workshop brought together key stakeholders, including the University of the South Pacific (USP), the University of Fiji, Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), and the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF).

Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr Navin Raj
Officially opening the workshop, Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr Navin Raj, described the initiative as “a first of its kind” and a critical step towards transforming careers education in Fiji.
“This workshop is more than just an event; it is a gateway—one that equips educators with the tools and knowledge to guide students towards meaningful and future-focused careers,” said Mr Raj. He emphasised that careers education must go beyond theory, enabling students to explore real-world opportunities while developing resilience, adaptability, and lifelong learning skills.
Acting Director Marketing and Communications at FNU, Ella Bennion, highlighted the University’s role in advancing national development priorities.
“As educators, we set the pace for our students’ learning and career pathways. As we continue to support the Ministry of Education and the Coalition Government in building a strong human resource base, FNU remains fully committed to delivering education that aligns with our vision and mission, ensuring inclusiveness, innovation, accessibility, and sustainability for Fiji and the Pacific,” she said.

The initiative directly aligns with FNU’s vision to be a leading dual-sector transformative university and its mission to serve communities through accessible, high-quality education and research with real-world impact.
By supporting platforms such as this training, FNU continues to strengthen the link between education and employment, empowering teachers to better guide students in navigating an evolving job market.
Through collaboration and shared commitment, this initiative marks a significant step towards equipping Fiji’s youth with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
