FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson congratulating the recipients through a Zoom session.
The Fiji National University (FNU) has assisted 19 private students with their tuition fees for Semester 1, 2021 through the University’s newly launched Student Bursary Scheme.
The recipients are full-time first-year local students enrolled in undergraduate Bachelor’s programmes at FNU and are not on any form of scholarship or sponsorship.
A total of $2,000 tuition assistance ($1, 000 per semester) will be given for the year 2021. To be eligible to continue receiving a similar allocation in Semester 2, the student must maintain a full study load, be enrolled and have satisfactory performance in their studies as verified by the Dean of the College.
FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson congratulated the inaugural bursary scheme awardees through a Zoom session earlier today.
“On behalf of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and whole of FNU, many congratulations to all the bursary recipients on your awards. It is good to see recipients from across FNU’s Colleges and Campuses,” said Professor Wilkinson.
“The Bursary Scheme is a sign of FNU’s commitment to supporting students and their families, especially through the current challenges and we hope that the bursaries will enable you to concentrate on your studies without financial worries.”
“We are confident that you will work hard, go on to have successful careers, and become ambassadors for FNU. Once again, many congratulations to you all,” VC Wilkinson added.
FNU Student Bursary Scheme recipient Anishil Visant Kumar.
A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student at FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS), Anishil Visant Kumar acknowledged the University for initiating the bursary scheme.
Kumar highlighted this scheme has provided relief for private students during these tough times because of the impact that COVID-19 has had on the economy.
“Thank you is the least we can say to show our appreciation to be privileged to have been selected for the bursary scheme provided by FNU,” said Kumar.
“I am thrilled to learn of my selection and I’m deeply appreciative of the support rendered to us students to ease our financial burden of tuition fees.”
The 19-year-old said he will continue to work hard to maintain the scholarship in the second semester.
