The Fiji National University (FNU) is experiencing a surge of interest for its upcoming 2024 Open Day, with a record number of secondary schools across the country eager to participate.

The Open Day, a highlight in FNU’s calendar, is attracting strong interest from various schools, including maritime schools and those from remote rural locations. These schools see the event as a crucial opportunity to help their students identify potential career paths and make informed decisions about their subject selections in line with future aspirations.

Due to their rural and remote locations and internet connectivity issues, these schools are now taking advantage of the Open Day as an opportunity to access university resources and explore potential career paths. These include Nakorotubu Secondary School from Ra, Delana Methodist High School from Levuka, and Wainimakutu Secondary School. All three schools, along with others, are eagerly anticipating their visit to the Nasinu Campus on 4 October 2024.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, highlighted the significance of this increased interest from secondary schools, particularly those in remote areas.

“The enthusiasm for the Open Day from rural and remote schools is truly encouraging. This demonstrates their interest in our programmes and their commitment to shaping their students’ future education,” said Professor Nabobo-Baba.

“This is precisely why we organise the Open Day, to raise awareness, provide opportunities, and empower our future leaders to make informed career choices.”

The 2024 FNU Open Day will be held across four main campuses:

  • Naduna Campus: Thursday, 03-04 October (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Namaka, and Natabua Campuses on: Friday, 04 October (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Nasinu Campus: 04-05 October (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

The FNU Open Day is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders. This significant occasion offers prospective students and their families a unique opportunity to explore the university’s diverse academic programmes and state-of-the-art facilities.
