The Fiji National University (FNU) proudly participated in the jubilant 65th Anniversary Celebration of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS), held at Sukuna Park in Suva yesterday, Saturday, 9 August 2025. The event was a vibrant showcase of community spirit, tradition, and education, with FNU’s presence igniting excitement among students and their families about future career opportunities.
The University’s outreach team set up an engaging booth that drew large crowds of students and parents eager to learn more about the diverse programmes offered by FNU. The day provided a unique platform for students to explore their academic and professional futures, with FNU staff providing valuable insights into the University’s specialised courses, including the highly sought-after College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS).
Ella Bennion, Manager Outreach at FNU, expressed her enthusiasm about the event, stating, “It was truly inspiring to see so many young minds eager to discover their future pathways. Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their education and careers.”
“Our academic counselling services are designed to guide students through various options available, helping them identify their passions and take confident steps towards realising their dreams.”
Bennion highlighted the importance of initiatives like today’s outreach, saying, “We are committed to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals and leaders. By engaging directly with students, we hope to inspire them to pursue their passions and seize the opportunities available at FNU.”
With the application window for CMNHS undergraduate programmes open until November, the event offered a timely opportunity for students to gather crucial information.
Panapasa Railala, a Year 13 student from RSMS, was among those who eagerly approached the FNU team.
Originally from Vatoa in Lau and currently residing with his grandparents in Nasole, Railala has already set his sights on a career in nursing.
“I want to become a nurse because I’ve always wanted to help others and make a difference in my community,” Panapasa shared.
With a background in Home Economics, Chemistry, and Biology, he is well-positioned to embark on his educational journey at FNU, inspired by the University’s comprehensive programmes and supportive environment.
“Learning more about FNU’s Diploma in Nursing programme has made me even more excited to pursue this path. I believe I can break barriers and be the first nurse in my family.”
As Fiji’s premier national university, FNU remains dedicated to empowering students from all walks of life, offering pathways to success that are accessible, relevant, and transformative.
