FNU Clarifies Access for Council Members and Management

News Posted On: January 21, 2026

The Fiji National University (FNU) wishes to clarify that there are no restrictions on entry for any Council members or members of the University’s management across all 17 campuses nationwide.

The University acknowledges that there is currently a tightened security presence across its campuses. This measure has been implemented purely as a precautionary response to a rise in theft and security-related incidents within campus premises. These security operations are intended to safeguard students, staff, visitors, and University property.

All authorised personnel, including Council members and senior management, continue to have full access to all FNU campuses in the normal course of their duties.

FNU remains committed to transparency, safety, and the continued effective governance of the institution.

FNU Request Transfer to PM’s Office

In a historic milestone for higher education in Fiji, the Fiji National University (FNU) has officially transitioned to operate under the Office of the Prime Minister, within the Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics, effective immediately.

The transition is a strategic initiative requested by the FNU Council and Senior Management to promote the interests of the University.

On 9 August 2024, FNU made an official request to the Honourable Prime Minister, led by the FNU Chancellor/Chair, Mr Semesa Karavaki, and his delegation.

FNU is the only dual-sector university in Fiji. This strategic move will not only enable the University to carry out its functions more effectively but also support the government’s systematic priorities and contribute to national planning.

Further comments will follow as we await our Honourable Prime Minister’s return.
