The Fiji National University (FNU) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to skills development in Nauru, celebrating the graduation of 519 students from the university’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes last week.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, FNU’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor TVET, Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata commended the graduates for their perseverance and dedication, highlighting the significance of lifelong learning.

“This momentous occasion marks not only the culmination of your hard work, dedication, and perseverance but also the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities and opportunities,” said Dr Tagicakiverata.

“You have demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The skills and knowledge you have acquired are not just tools for personal advancement but also instruments for positive change in your communities and beyond.”

The graduates completed training across 19 short-course programmes, covering areas such as baking and patisserie, plumbing, small engine repair, carpentry, refrigeration and air conditioning, and front office management. Notably, 292 students graduated from training 9 (T 9) and 227 from training 10 (T 10).

FNU’s partnership with the Government of Nauru’s Department of Multicultural Affairs has played a crucial role in this success. Under this collaboration, the university has conducted numerous training sessions through its National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC), empowering individuals across diverse sectors.

Looking ahead, FNU remains committed to expanding opportunities for Nauruan students, with the upcoming training 11 (T 11) set to commence on 24 February, offering another 19 TVET programmes.

Furthermore, several graduates will be continuing their education in Fiji, enrolling in Certificate IV and Diploma programmes in Semester 1, 2025.

FNU congratulates all graduates and looks forward to supporting more Nauruans in their educational and professional journeys.
