FNU broadened Kumar’s horizons

Press Release Posted On: June 28, 2021

Fiji National University (FNU) graduate Pranish Kumar believes that his personal character, positive mental attitude, good work habits and above all, his education at FNU’s College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) have led him to his successful career.

Originally from Coral Coast Sigatoka, Kumar had set his sights on a career in the banking industry as early as his pre-secondary education.

“I have grown up helping my dad in his market business.  I used to sell groceries with him at the Sigatoka market.  Life in the market is not easy, especially in the environment that you work in.  The motivation, passion and drive – it all originates from there.”

Kumar completed his Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Finance earlier this year.

The recent graduate is currently employed as an Internal Auditor at BSP Financial Group Limited.

He has previously worked at several other positions including Settlement Officer and Retail Collections Officer at the BSP’s Lending Support Unit and had a short stint at the Bank’s Asset Management Unit as well.

“I have found that the Banking career is exciting and there is a good remuneration to start off which includes benefits such as lower rates on interest loans, education assistance and family medical cover protection.”

“I would say that the Banking and Finance programme at FNU has equipped me well for my position. The programme is simple so if you have a focused and right mindset, it will enable you to have a rewarding outcome of your career.”

An ambitious and energetic professional, Kumar said his journey with FNU dates back to several years ago.

“I started my program in Certificate in Banking, then attained Diploma in Business Banking, and later attained my Bachelor’s degree at FNU.  I am now working towards my Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.”

Kumar is a member of the Fiji Institute of Internal Auditors and the Fiji Institute of Bankers.

His advice to the prospective students is to “Set high personal and academic standards for yourself, and always live up to them.”

Enrolment for Semester 2, 2021 is currently underway and interested students can visit the FNU website on www.fnu.ac.fj to learn more.

Prospective students can also text on 857 or email on admission@fnu.ac.fj if they face difficulties completing the process online or need further information on enrolment.
