The Fiji National University (FNU) is proud to announce the accreditation of four of its micro-qualifications programmes by the Pacific Community’s (SPC) Educational Quality and Assessment Programme (EQAP).

This achievement marks a significant milestone for FNU and highlights its commitment to providing high-quality and relevant educational opportunities in Fiji and the Pacific region.

FNU has successfully obtained micro-qualification accreditation in the areas of demonstrated knowledge of air conditioning principles in the workplace; refrigeration principles in the workplace; advanced culinary skills, and of restaurant services in a hospitality environment.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony yesterday, FNU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Professor Paul Iji, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this accomplishment.

“Education is the cornerstone of progress, empowering individuals to shape their destinies or as we believe at FNU, turn their dreams into reality. This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of our faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing quality and relevant education to our students,” Professor Iji stated.

“I would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Pacific Community Qualifications Unit for their diligence and fairness throughout the accreditation process,”

SPC’s Land Resources Division Deputy Director, Florence Rahiria, who presented the certificates of accreditation stated that FNU is on track to ensuring academic excellence and achieving its education goals.

“As a national university, FNU is moving in the right direction in ensuring our people are supported in achieving their education goals whether through traditional pathway of university degree studies or through a more flexible, skill and industry focused pathway like micro- qualifications,” said Rahiria.

Amrish Narayan, National Training and Productivity Centre’s Acting Director, said the recognition is empowering and NTPC would look into standardising micro-qualifications especially in the areas of trade, tourism, hospitality and automotive engineering.

“NTPC stands ready to do more in the area of micro qualifications given that we are the largest providers of short courses in the country.”

The accreditation process was facilitated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FNU and SPC. Through this MOU, FNU has to date attained a total of 14 accredited micro-qualifications endorsed by the Pacific Board for Educational Quality.
