Fiji National University to Host Career Teachers’ Workshop

Posted On: April 8, 2025

The Fiji National University (FNU) will host its Career Teachers’ Workshop (CTW) this month, an initiative aimed at enhancing awareness of the University’s academic programmes, study pathways, and application processes among high school career teachers across the country.

To ensure nationwide participation, FNU will conduct workshops across its Central, Western, and Northern campuses.

These sessions are designed to equip career teachers with relevant information that will enable them to better guide their students in making informed decisions about their tertiary education.

FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, emphasised the importance of the event and the collaborative role career teachers play in shaping students’ futures.

“Career teachers work closely with students and understand their interests, strengths, and aspirations,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.

“This year’s Career Teachers’ Workshop is particularly special as it will span two days at the Namaka, Nasinu, and Naduna campuses. The second day at each of these locations will be dedicated to Special Education teachers, further strengthening inclusivity in our outreach efforts.”

She added that the workshops align with the University’s commitment to providing a holistic and enriching student experience, one that supports personal, moral, spiritual, and intellectual development.

FNU Outreach Manager, Ella Bennion, said the CTW would also provide a platform to familiarise teachers with the range of academic qualifications offered by FNU including career pathways.

“Our programmes range from certificate and diploma levels to undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications,” Bennion said.

“Career teachers act as critical information bridges between FNU and students therefore, we want to ensure that they are fully informed about our offerings, entry requirements, and academic support services.”

The workshop schedule is as follows:

  • Nadi Campus: 10–11 April
  • Ba Campus: 15 April
  • Nasinu Campus: 23–24 April
  • Naduna Campus: 29–30 April

This initiative forms part of FNU’s Strategic Plan 2021–2026, under Pillar 3: Student Experience, which focuses on improving access to high-quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education throughout Fiji and the region.
