Fiji National University (FNU) has taken a significant step towards advancing digital education and fostering innovation through a landmark partnership with TOPPAN Ecquaria Pte Limited in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed today, 25 June 2025 at the Nasinu Campus, marks a strategic collaboration aimed at integrating cutting-edge digital technology into FNU’s academic programmes, aligning with Fiji’s broader national development and sustainable growth objectives.
Under this collaboration, FNU will incorporate TOPPAN Ecquaria’s pioneering KAIZEN Digital Platform across its undergraduate, graduate, and masters programmes. The platform is designed to streamline digital service design and delivery, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and improved citizen engagement. This initiative will enable students to gain hands-on experience in digital government operations, preparing them to meet the demands of Fiji’s evolving digital economy.
FNU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nii-K Plange highlighted the importance of this alliance, emphasising that it aligns with FNU’s vision to produce graduates who are not only academically proficient but also socially responsible and capable of driving sustainable development.
“This MoU exemplifies our dedication to equipping our graduates with the skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world,” Professor Plange said.
“The integration of the KAIZEN Digital Platform will allow our students to acquire practical experience in digital transformation, fostering skills highly relevant to today’s labour market. It will empower them to become active contributors to Fiji’s digital economy and support the development of a more inclusive and efficient public service system.”
TOPPAN Ecquaria Pte Limited Managing Director, Chong Ser Wah expressed his optimism about the partnership’s potential to unlock opportunities and surmount challenges through collaboration.
“Our focus is on empowering FNU in its journey towards enhanced digital Government capabilities. We aim to help Fiji’s next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs’ leverage technology brings about impactful changes for citizens and businesses. The partnership also involves donating the comprehensive digital Government platform, Kaizen, to FNU, which is currently being implemented for Fiji’s Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs and Communications for key e-services,” Wah explained.
The collaboration aligns closely with Fiji’s National Digital Strategy 2025–2030, which aims to build a connected, inclusive, and innovation-driven society.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, Honourable Manoa Kamikamica highlighted the MoU was a declaration of intent to invest in our people, our systems, and our capacity to evolve.
“Together, Fiji National University and TOPPAN Ecquaria are building a bridge — one that connects global digital innovation with Fijian resilience and talent. This initiative directly supports our national goals, fostering a digitally literate and innovative society,” Honourable Kamikamica stated.
He also stressed the vital role of education in realising Fiji’s digital ambitions.
“Our young people — our future leaders — must be prepared not only to adapt to change but to lead it. Embedding the KAIZEN Digital Platform into FNU’s curriculum ensures that students gain practical, real-world experience with technology shaping industries worldwide,” he said. “This initiative brings relevance and rigour into our classrooms, equipping students with vital skills such as digital literacy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.”
The partnership between FNU and TOPPAN Ecquaria demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and global digital integration.
