Nilsen College Principal Umendran Nilesh Reddy.
Nilsen College Principal, Umendran Nilesh Reddy, has guided many students to further pursue their education at the Fiji National University (FNU) over the course of his teaching career.
Being a proud alumnus of FNU, Reddy encouraged students to choose the Institution to pursue further studies. Reddy will be among the many teachers’ part of FNU’s inaugural Career Teachers’ Workshop that will be held this month. With years of experience in teaching and qualification in his bag, he would be a suitable figure to provide advice to high school students.
“I am a former proud student at the Fiji Institute of Technology, Fiji College of Agriculture and Fiji College of Advanced Education,” he explained.
“I have guided many students to take various programs offered at FNU, namely Agricultural Engineering, Diploma in Tropical Agriculture, other agriculture courses, education courses, trade programmes, and more.”
The 43-year-old Principal of the Vatukoula school said he has confirmed participation at the workshop to obtain relevant information of FNU programmes to help students make wise choices in choosing their career path.
Reddy’s added that his passion for agriculture motivated him to pursue a career as an Agricultural Science teacher.
“I always had a passion for agriculture from a young age coming from a farming background that motivated me to take up agriculture studies.
“Through taking up agricultural science in secondary school inspired me to become an agriculture science teacher.
“Do take advantage of the renowned courses and programs offered by FNU for your career development.”
This Career Teachers’ Workshop will further create awareness for teachers on FNU’s programmes, study pathways and application processes.
The University will conduct the first Careers Teachers’ workshop on March 15 at the Ba campus, followed by the Namaka campus on March 17.
Careers teachers in the Central Division can attend the Nasinu campus workshop on March 22, followed by the final workshop at the Labasa campus on March 24.
Schools in the Maritime zones can also join the virtual session on April 7 from 9am to 11am.
The initiative is part of the FNU’s Strategic Plan 2021–2026 under Pillar 3 on Student Experience, which strives to enhance access for students across Fiji and the region to high-quality Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE). This is true to FNU’s dual sector design.
