Fiji National University (FNU) is set to welcome thousands of eager students, parents, and members of the public to its highly anticipated 2024 Open Day, a celebration of education, innovation, and opportunity.
This year, the spotlight will shine on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, highlighting the crucial role they play in building a much-needed skilled and empowered workforce for Fiji’s future.
Held across multiple campuses from 3 to 5 October, the Open Day will feature interactive booths from FNU’s wide range of TVET programmes, allowing prospective students, parents, and community members to engage with faculty, explore state-of-the-art facilities, and get hands-on experience with industry-relevant tools.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the university’s offerings in fields such as construction, engineering, hospitality, automotive, and much more.
Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata, Pro-Vice-Chancellor TVET, expressed his excitement for this year’s Open Day, emphasising the pivotal role that TVET programmes play in Fiji’s development.

“TVET is at the heart of national progress. It equips students with the practical skills they need to succeed in various industries, from agriculture to information technology. At this year’s Open Day, we are demonstrating how FNU’s TVET programmes are designed to meet industry standards, ensuring our graduates are job-ready from day one,” said Dr Tagicakiverata.
“The Open Day booths will feature live demonstrations, from automotive engineering to culinary arts showcases. This hands-on approach is designed to give students a real feel for what a career in these industries entails. Additionally, expert faculty members and current students will be available to answer questions, share their experiences, and guide potential students in choosing the right pathway.”
Dr Tagicakiverata highlighted that FNU’s TVET programmes are unique in offering direct access to real-world skills that are in demand locally and internationally.
“Our TVET graduates are shaping industries, both here in Fiji and abroad. This year’s Open Day is about showing our future students that the pathway to success is not only about academic achievement but also about acquiring the technical expertise that will empower them to create a prosperous future. Whether you are interested in building, technology, or any other vocational field, FNU has the programmes to turn your passion into a career.”
As Fiji’s premier institution for TVET, FNU remains committed to providing innovative and accessible education to students across the country.
