
Professor Nii-K Plange
Professor Nii-K Plange is a distinguished academic and social scientist whose career spans more than four decades of teaching, research, and leadership. He currently serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Corporate Services and Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies at the Fiji National University. He joined the University in 2014 as Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies within the College of Humanities and Education, now known as the College of Humanities, Education and Law.
Throughout his tenure at FNU, he has held several senior leadership roles, including Acting Dean of the College of Humanities and Education and Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor Corporate Services, as well as serving as the University’s first Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and the pioneer Dean of the Centre for Graduate Studies. In these roles, he has brought a wealth of interdisciplinary expertise and strategic insight to the institution.
Professor Nii-K Plange’s academic contributions are widely recognised, particularly in the fields of political economy, critical social theory, and Pacific development studies. His notable publications include The Political Economy of the South Pacific, The Science of Society, and Generation in Transition: Pacific Youth and the Crisis of Change in the Twenty-First Century, reflecting his longstanding commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing development challenges in the Pacific.
Prior to joining FNU, he served at the University of the South Pacific as Head of the Sociology Department. He later joined the United Nations and served with distinction as a senior official in postings across Papua New Guinea and Geneva, while also contributing to development initiatives in Cambodia and Vietnam. This extensive international experience continues to inform his work, enabling him to bridge global perspectives with Pacific realities.
