Professor Paul Iji joined FNU in 2018, as Dean of the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF).  Prior to that, he was a Professor at the University of New England, Australia where he also served as the Coordinator of Higher Degrees by Research of the most research-intensive school.  Prior to these appointments, Professor Iji worked in South Africa, at the University of Pretoria, and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.  He commenced his academic career at Ahmadu Bello University, the largest public university in Nigeria.

He has graduated close to 40 Masters and PhD students and currently supervises other postgraduate students. Professor Iji has examined about 40 PhD and Masters theses and has reviewed promotion and grant applications from many countries.  He is on the editorial board of a number of scientific journals and regularly reviews other journals.  Prof Iji has received over USD7 million in research grants and other funding for his students, including grants to support student training at FNU.  He consults for a number of companies in the livestock and poultry feed industries and has made presentations on his findings across the world.  

Professor Iji has published one research booklet, and over 350 book chapters as well as journal and conference papers.  His research is highly cited and he is listed among the Top 2 % of the most impactful researchers in the world (Standford University).  Prof Iji has presented close to 200 conference papers, 29 of these to plenary sessions around the world.  He has a large following on LinkedIn and other academic social media.   

Professor Paul Iji was appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) effective from 31 January 2024.
