Eighteen-year-old, Matilda Charlotte Simmons, a student of Lautoka Andhra Sangam College is grateful for the information she received from academic experts while participating in Fiji National University’s (FNU) first-ever Virtual Open Day.
The aspiring doctor said the College videos and live chat session provided her with valuable information as she plans her tertiary education journey.
“During our careers class, we watched all the FNU college videos. I joined the live chat in the evening from home to get further clarifications and academic advice from the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS),” said Simmons.
“This would not have been possible in the traditional open days because of time constraints,” said the soft-spoken Lautoka girl.
The Year-12 student said her overall impression of the Virtual Open Day was packaged in a manner that made information more accessible and time convenient.
“I got the feel of what the university is like, mainly the excellent facilities and learning opportunities on offer. Though on-campus open days were great for us to see what life is like at the university due to COVID-19 virtual open days are proving to be a viable alternative, opening a new window for students, especially for us in the Western division, she said confidently.
According to Simmons, the online experience provided her with an opportunity to learn about programmes offered by other Colleges and important services such as Peer tutoring, Maths and English hubs.
“I felt welcomed, and information was easy to find and understand,” she said.
Mother, Ranita Simmons shared similar sentiments and added that the online concept is a safe and convenient way for students to access academic information from the comfort of their home and school.
“Given that times are hard, the FNU Virtual Open Day provided my daughter all the answers to her enquiries. She’s well informed about the minimum entry requirements for the programme she intends to study,” she said.
FNU’s live Q&A sessions continues tomorrow from 10.00am to 11.00am, 2.00pm to 3.00pm and 5.00pm to 6.00pm.
