The Fiji National University’s (FNU) National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) continues to drive workplace productivity and business excellence across Fiji, helping organisations build more efficient, organised, and productive workplaces through its National 5S Certification Programme Workplace Management System.
The Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is among the latest organisations to benefit from this initiative, successfully renewing its National 5S Certification after demonstrating its continued commitment to maintaining high workplace standards.
First certified in 2023, FCCC has continued to put the 5S workplace management principles into practice, maintaining its standards even as the organisation has grown and expanded its operations.
The 5S methodology which are Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise and Sustain, has helped FCCC streamline its operations, improve document management, support digital innovation, and strengthen the services it provides to consumers across Fiji.
Following a comprehensive audit conducted by NTPC earlier this year, FCCC demonstrated that its commitment to workplace organisation, efficiency and continuous improvement remains firmly in place.
FNU Quality Services Officer, Mr Rajneel Prasad, said FCCC’s successful recertification was a strong example of what organisations could achieve when quality became part of everyday workplace practice.
“Achieving National 5S Certification is a significant accomplishment, but sustaining those standards over time is an even greater achievement. FCCC has shown that continuous improvement is not a one-time project. It is embedded in the way the organisation works every day,” he said.
Mr Prasad added that NTPC’s work extended beyond assessing organisations against set standards, as the Centre also supported them in developing the skills and systems needed to make lasting improvements.
“The 5S methodology creates workplaces that are safer, more organised, and more productive, while helping organisations become more responsive to the people they serve. When these principles are put into practice, the benefits extend beyond the workplace to customers, stakeholders, and the wider community,” Mr Prasad further stated.

He encouraged more organisations across Fiji, including government ministries, statutory authorities, municipalities, and private businesses, to take up the 5S approach and make workplace improvement a priority.
“Every organisation, regardless of its size or sector, can benefit from implementing quality management systems such as 5S. Continuous improvement is achievable, and NTPC is committed to supporting organisations throughout that journey,” he explained.
FCCC’s latest achievement builds on a strong track record in business excellence. The Commission received an Achievement Award at the Fiji Business Excellence Awards in 2018, followed by a Prize Award in 2019 and the prestigious Fiji Business Excellence Awards (FBEA) President’s Award in 2022. It subsequently embarked on its 5S journey, achieving National 5S Certification in 2023 and now successfully renewing that certification.
Its progress demonstrates that building a culture of excellence takes commitment, consistency, and a willingness to keep improving.
Through its National 5S Certification programme and wider productivity initiatives, FNU’s NTPC continues to work alongside organisations in the public and private sectors, helping them strengthen workplace practices, improve performance, and build the capabilities needed to compete and succeed.
As more organisations embrace quality management and productivity improvement, FNU remains committed to supporting a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable Fiji.
