Dr Kenneth N.B. Cokanasiga

Dr Kenneth N.B. Cokanasiga is one of Fiji’s most distinguished veterinary and agricultural professionals, with more than four decades of leadership and service in animal health, biosecurity, agriculture, trade, and regional development across the Pacific.

A graduate of Massey University, he holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and later attained a Master of Science in Tropical Veterinary Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, further strengthening his expertise in veterinary science and tropical animal health.

Dr Cokanasiga began his professional career with the Ministry of Agriculture in 1979 as a Veterinary Officer before progressing through a number of senior leadership roles, including Divisional Veterinary Officer, Principal Veterinary Officer, Director of Animal Health and Production, Chief Veterinary Officer, and Deputy Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests.

At the regional level, Dr Cokanasiga served for more than a decade with the Pacific Community (SPC), including in the roles of Regional Adviser for Animal Health and Production and later Acting Deputy Director of the Land Resources Division’s Agribusiness and Trade Programme.

In recent years, Dr Cokanasiga has continued to make significant contributions as an independent consultant and technical adviser for national, regional, and international initiatives. A respected leader within the veterinary profession, he currently serves as President of the Fiji Veterinary Association and Chairperson of the Fiji Meat Industry Board.
