The Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) successfully hosted its inaugural ‘Breakfast with the Dean’ at the Nasinu Campus on Thursday, 29 April 2026.
The student-centred initiative aims to foster resilience, readiness and a positive start to the academic week by creating a welcoming platform for engagement between students and faculty.
As part of the initiative, students were provided with a nutritious breakfast that helped students to kick-start their day while nourishing their bodies for learning.

CBHTS Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Dr Shalendra Kumar highlighted the importance of meaningful interaction within the University environment.
“This initiative provides a valuable opportunity for students to meet and engage with our academic staff while sharing their individual journeys to FNU. It is about building connections, encouraging openness and supporting one another’s growth,” Dr Kumar said.
He also urged students to remain focused on their studies, particularly in light of increasing drug-related challenges facing the country.
“As future leaders, it is critical that you prioritise your education and make informed choices. The decisions you make today will shape not only your future, but the future of our nation,” he said.
Students welcomed the initiative, noting its impact on building confidence and strengthening peer connections.

Leitangi Arnhambat, a 19-year-old first-year student from Vanuatu pursuing a Certificate IV in Banking, said the event provided her with an opportunity to connect beyond her programme.
“This event has allowed me to meet and engage with students from Diploma and Bachelor’s programmes. It has helped me feel more included and motivated in my studies,” she said.
Arnhambat added that her goal is to return home equipped with a qualification from the university she has always aspired to attend.
The ‘Breakfast with the Dean’ is expected to become a regular feature within CBHTS, reinforcing the College’s commitment to student wellbeing and academic success.
