Press Release Posted On: February 17, 2026

The FNU Choir at the FNU Graduation ceremony last December.

Students who are part of the Fiji National University (FNU) Choir based at FNU’s iconic Natabua Campus were formally recognised for their valuable contribution to the University.

Through FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba and Pro Vice-Chancellor Learning and Teaching, Professor Jimaima Lako, the students were presented with an acknowledgement certificate and cash prize.

Officiating at the ceremony was FNU’s Registrar, Shalmendra Chand who said the ceremony was to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of the choir with their participation in the different events throughout 2025.

“At FNU our mission is to serve the people, the economy, and the communities of Fiji and the region,” he said.

“While we often think of ‘service’ in terms of classrooms and labs, you have served us today through the power of music, lifting our spirits and reminding us that we are part of something larger than ourselves. Where words fail, music wins.

“Your performance perfectly mirrors our university values – Care, Honesty, Accountability, Service and Excellence.”

FNU student and choir member, Jese Mocenacagi receives his certificate from FNU’s Registrar, Mr Shalmendra Chand.

He said the students, including Music Lecturers, Mr Lasarusa Daveta and Mr Waisake Rabuatoka have set the tone for the new academic year.

The FNU Choir comprises about 40 students.
