Fijians of all ages enrolling in free NTPC short courses at the FNU booth
The Fiji National University (FNU) team helped turn many dreams into reality at the two-day National Employment Centre (NEC) job fair at the LDS Church in Raiwaqa.
Naomi Waqanokonoko, a trainer with the university’s National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) was happy with the event’s turnout, especially with the large number of mothers and grandmothers who were interested in pursuing short courses at NTPC.
“It is empowering to see the large turnout by our mothers and grandmothers at this event as it shows that women are now being empowered and reaching out for upskilling and reskilling opportunities offered by FNU,” said Waqanokonoko.
“We were amazed by the interest in our free short course programmes which will be offered from the first week of December at our Robertson Road Centre.”
Waqanokonoko added the courses will last two and a half weeks and are not limited to young Fijians.
“Age is never a barrier when it comes to FNU’s short courses! We are here to empower all Fijians through skills-based training and education,” she emphasised.
Olivia Tawake
Olivia Tawake, 51, a dedicated volunteer working with street kids and juveniles to combat drug abuse, was thrilled to enrol in the free Front Office Management short course, eager to expand her skills and continue making a positive impact.
“A friend encouraged me to attend the event, and I truly believe this is what God had ordained for me today,” said the single mum of five.
“I have been working as a volunteer in various NGOs such as the Red Cross since 2019, it is my passion. I love meeting people, and I believe this short course is another door God has opened for me to grow and use my people skills and vibrant personality to make a difference in a different sphere.”
Tawake said that she was excited to share the news with her children and knew that they would be inspired by her bold step to pursue further education in her 50s.
