FNU to launch inaugural primary school awareness campaign

Press Release Posted On: April 5, 2023

The Fiji National University (FNU) will be conducting its first-ever Primary School Awareness session this month from April 24-28.

These presentations to primary-aged students in Year 6, 7 and 8 will create awareness and understanding of FNU’s programmes, study pathways and application processes for teachers and students from the pre-secondary level.

FNU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said the University is eager to engage with primary school teachers and students across Fiji.

“We believe it is never too early to start speaking with children regarding their studies,” Professor Nabobo-Baba shared.

“FNU has just completed our nation-wide Careers Teachers Workshop to engage more with our teachers that will help high school students better plan their tertiary education.”

“Through this Primary School Awareness sessions, we are going a step further and speaking to younger students. In the next year or two, these students will begin high school and it is important that these students make the right subject combination choices that are aligned to their career ambitions.”

Professor Nabobo-Baba highlighted that through the pilot project, the University will be organising awareness sessions at 30 primary schools in Nasinu, Labasa and Lautoka.

She further stated that that played a crucial role in helping students decide their programs of study at the University.

“Career guidance is extremely important; children need mentorship and guidance from the moment they begin their study journey.”

The Acting Vice-Chancellor further added that these awareness sessions will allow primary teachers and students to be able to understand better how FNU is able to meet the academic needs of every student at various entry-levels.

“The students will also be part of these sessions, so they are aware of the opportunities available to them before they even enter secondary school. With a clear vision, students will set on a path they wish to undertake.”
